1. 1.
   Used to emphasise, clarify or confirm the meaning or identity of the following word or what comes later and sometimes can be rather difficult to translate into English. Often translated with a word order involving "it was [this] that", "[this] is what", "[this] is the one that" etc., otherwise "exactly", "precisely", "just", "specifically", etc. or not translated.

   • Статья́ появи́лась в газе́те и́менно в пя́тницу.

     Statʹjá pojavílasʹ v gazéte ímenno v pjátnicu. — It was on Friday that the article appeared in the newspaper.

   • Всё произошло́ и́менно так, как я и предполага́л.

     Vsjo proizošló ímenno tak, kak ja i predpolagál. — Everything happened just as I'd supposed.

   • Кто его́ зна́ет, где и́менно он живёт...

     Kto jevó znájet, gde ímenno on živjót... — Who knows where exactly he lives...

2. 2.
   namely, specifically, which is/are, to wit; used to specify something or to enumerate a list.

   • В году́ четы́ре сезо́на, а и́менно — весна́, ле́то, о́сень и зима́.

     V godú četýre sezóna, a ímenno — vesná, léto, ósenʹ i zimá. — There are four seasons in a year, namely spring, summer, autumn and winter.

   • В тот день, а и́менно в суббо́ту, произошло́ ЧП.

     V tot denʹ, a ímenno v subbótu, proizošló ČP. — That day, which was a Saturday, there was an emergency.

   • Она́ живёт в Нью-Йо́рке, а и́менно — на Уо́лл-стрит.

     Oná živjót v Nʹju-Jórke, a ímenno — na Uóll-strit. — She lives in New York, to wit, on Wall Street.

3. 3.
   exactly, that's right, right, precisely, indeed; used to emphasise agreement or confirmation.

   • — Мы же договори́лись сде́лать э́то. — И́менно, поэ́тому мы э́то и де́лаем.

     — My že dogovorílisʹ sdélatʹ éto. — Ímenno, poétomu my éto i délajem. — — We agreed to do this. — Exactly; that's why we're doing it."

   • — Вы мне э́то говори́те? — И́менно, Вам!

     — Vy mne éto govoríte? — Ímenno, Vam! — — You're telling me this? — You, indeed!
