Opinions in Czech: myslím, že — podle mě — máš pravdu
Chapter 5 begins where transactions end: you can order the beer, now defend your choice of it. The opinion frames are few and they carry everything.
Saying What You Think
Myslím, že… — I think that… Podle mě — in my opinion. Zdá se mi, že… — it seems to me that… Note the iron comma before že — Czech never drops it.
Myslím, že Brno je hezčí než Praha.
I think Brno is nicer than Prague.

Agreeing
Souhlasím s tebou / s vámi — I agree with you (s + instrumental). Máš pravdu — you're right (you have the truth). To je pravda. Přesně tak — exactly.

Disagreeing Politely
Nesouhlasím — I disagree. To není pravda — that's not true (strong). The velvet versions: Možná, ale… — maybe, but…; Nevím, jestli… — I'm not sure whether…; Nesouhlasím, ale chápu váš názor — I disagree, but I see your point.
Asking for Opinions
Co myslíš? — what do you think? Co si o tom myslíš? — what's your take on it? Jak se ti líbí…? — how do you like…?
Jak se ti líbí Česko?

Moc! Ale myslím, že zima je moc dlouhá.

Common Mistakes
- Myslím že without the comma. Written Czech demands it: myslím, že.
- souhlasím s ty. The with-case: s tebou, s vámi, s Petrem.
- Opening with To není pravda. Save the hammer; start with možná, ale.
