Invitations in Serbian

Invitations & Arrangements

Хајде да се видимо — хајде, хоћеш ли, одговара ми — make a plan and negotiate it.

Invite with хајде да

«Хајде да…» plus present makes a warm suggestion: Хајде да попијемо кафу. Plural хајдемо exists, but хајде is common for everyone.

Хајде да се видимо у суботу.

Let's meet on Saturday.

Ask with хоћеш ли да

«Хоћеш ли да дођеш?» asks Would you like to come? The verb after да matches the person invited.

Хоћеш ли да идемо у биоскоп?

Would you like us to go to the cinema?

At someone's place

дођи код мене means come to my place; видимо се код тебе means we'll meet at yours. код takes the genitive.

Дођи код мене на вечеру.

Come to my place for dinner.

Accept, decline, reschedule

Може! and Важи! accept. Не могу тада declines. «Да ли ти одговара недеља?» offers another time.

Не могу у петак. Може ли у суботу?

I can't on Friday. Could we do Saturday?

Put It Together

Keep the lesson goal in view: хајде, хоћеш ли, одговара ми — make a plan and negotiate it. Revisit the examples, then test yourself in practice.
