Илья Муромец
Ilya Muromets
The most famous Russian bogatyr: bedridden for thirty-three years until wandering elders work a miracle, Ilya Muromets takes up sword and armour, defeats Solovei the Robber, and becomes the great defender of the Russian land.
You will practice: Past-tense narration with aspect contrasts (сидел vs. встал, защищали vs. победил), the modal мочь in the past (не мог ходить), and за + accusative for the cause one fights for (боролся за справедливость).
