Tomorrow & Plans: the Future with буду
You've mastered yesterday; now for tomorrow. Russian's first future is gloriously simple: one helper verb plus the infinitive you already know. If you can say буду, you can plan.
The Building Block
буду + infinitive — will do / will be doing:
Завтра я буду работать.
Tomorrow I'll be working.
Note: The verb stays in its dictionary form; буду carries the future.
The Helper's Six Forms
The familiar -ешь melody — nothing new to memorize.
When
будет on Its Own
Будет also stands alone as the future of "is":
Common Mistakes
- Conjugating both verbs. Я буду читаю doubles the work — the main verb stays infinitive: буду читать.
- Using it for promises of результат. «Я буду читать» = I'll spend time reading. To promise you'll finish, the next lesson's perfective future awaits.
- Restaurant flashback. Я буду суп isn't "I will become soup" — you've been using this future to order food since Chapter 2.
What You Can Do Now
You can make and discuss plans — tomorrow, next weekend, next year — and deliver Russian's favourite reassurance: всё будет хорошо.
