   duckling

   • Tady se celý rok zdržovalo hejno divokých kachen, které si zvykly na přikrmování. V létě k nim přibývala malá káčátka a v zimě labutě. Když kačenky viděly někoho přicházet, rychle pádlovaly ke břehu.

     a flock of wild ducks, which got used to be fed, stayed here all the year round. Little ducklings increased their number in the summer and swans in the winter. When the ducklings saw somebody coming, they quickly paddled to the bank.

   • Začalo to tím, že jsem jí chtěl ukázat, jak její parník a kačenky umějí plavat po proudu.

     It started by me wanting to show her, how her toy steamboat and rubber ducks can float against the stream.

   Verpa (genus of fungi in the family Morchellaceae)

   • Od smržů (Morchella spp.) se kačenky liší zejména způsobem přichycení klobouku ke třeni, který je u smržů přirostlý po celé ploše, zatímco u kačenek jen v horní části třeně.

     Verpa can be distinguished from morels (Morchella spp.) especially by the way they have their caps attached to the stalk; while morels have all the cap attached, Verpa has it only at the upper part of the stalk.
