Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Slavic *doba (“time”) probably comes from Proto-Indo-European *dʰh₂ebʰ- (“appropriate”), which is also connected with Lithuanian dabà (“nature, character”) and dabar̃ (“now”), Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐌳𐌰𐌱𐌰𐌽 (gadaban, “be appropriate”), so it is possible that originally it meant "appropriate time" which later changed just into "time".
