Etymology
Variant of ча́йка (čájka, “seagull”), as ships are frequently likened to birds. A form with /tʃ/ meaning a boat is also present in Ukrainian ча́йка (čájka), probably originally meaning somewhat original vessels but then compared to the Turco-Bulgaric type.
